KGOC visits the Isle of Wight, September 2016

Poster produced in 1949 for British Railways (BR) to promote rail travel to and within the Isle of Wight. The poster shows a pictorial map of the island, 'The Garden Isle', boasting ÔSunshine, Scenery and SportÕ. Club members and IOW residents Chris & Brian have organised a weekend for our members to explore and enjoy the sights of the Isle of Wight, over 23 – 25 September 2016.

Staying in a family run hotel in Ventnor the plan so far is:-


Start at Osborne House late morning onwards….
its 5 mins from the Portsmouth – East Cowes ferry

Those who want to look round etc.. it has a restaurant for snacks..

Leave mid/late afternoon – scenic tour of east of Island to Hotel
or direct to Hotel for those on late ferries

Evening dinner Hotel


Morning Drive – Ventnor to Blackgang – to Needles (maybe morning coffee at Needles or IOW Pearls)

Then onto Yamouth/Feguson Museum – If I can get us in, and then Calbourne Mill for lunch and look round.

Afternoon drive Calbourne to maybe to the IOW Transport museum (if it is open) then to Hotel

Saturday Evening Dinner


Hotel to Godshill – Look around and Coffee..The IOW Austin car club meets here on Sunday Mornings and there will be an ad-hoc group of cars to see as well as the Godshill touristy things

Godshill to Arreton Barns – Look around then Dairymans Daughter pub at Arrenton Barns for lunch

Anticipated cost it about £150 per person plus the ferry. The hotel includes dinner, bed & breakfast for 2 nights based on 2 sharing a room (but there are a few single rooms available without supplement – first come first served). The hotel will arrange discounted ferry crossing at about £50 per car return.
